Candace Chellew-Hodge, associate pastor at Garden of Grace United Church of Christ in Columbia, S.C., blistered the formerly homosexual Rev. Ted Haggard for hypocrisy after Haggard said that at his new church he would "'encourage' members to strive towards the ideal of biblical heterosexuality and monogamy."
It’s disappointing when you realize the lesson [of his period of being widely shunned] has gone unheeded—that Haggard is so desperate to again be accepted by those who disowned him that he will bury his own truth and continue to shun, abuse, and belittle others all while hiding behind his pulpit and his Bible.
My partner and I never went to the Episcopal church that had so gladly “welcomed” us. I hope that no gay or lesbian person makes the mistake of believing that Haggard has changed and is really “welcoming” them to his new church.
my question to haggard would be "what are you basing your understanding about homosexuality?"
ReplyDeleteno where has scripture ever declared homosexuality a sin. and there is so much in the new covenant that shows homosexuality is of christ, it has become a non issue.
@feetxxxl; why do people insist on making such baseless comments that scripture does not declare homosexuality to be sin.
ReplyDeleteLev.19:22 - "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination."
Lev.20:13 - "If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them."
Romans 1:27-28 - "and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error."
1 Timothy 1:9-10 - "the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, 10 the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine...".
Please notice that the last 2 are from the New Testament. They all sound to me like a rebuke of homosexuality.
@Chellew-Hodge - perhaps instead of being regarded as a hypocrite, you should regard him as a sinner repenting of his sin of committing homosexual acts.
in lev god said slavery was good, how can you defy god's word and say it is bad. if you think there was a form of slavery in the past that would be even be good today............please explain it.
ReplyDeleteyour silence answers the very question you just asked.
