‘Sex-y’ Alabama sermons are both fundamentalist and promoted with cunning effectiveness

One Associated Press story, some facile television interviews and a few drive-by blogs have all added force to the DayStar Church billboard promoting a series of so-called "sex-y" sermons.

The series of stage dialogs between Good Hope, Ala., pastor Jerry Lawson and Satan is thoroughly tame in language and, save for the concerted focus, unstartling in list of topics covered.

Please take a time to review part of the [currently available] three weeks of dialogs for yourself.

The dialogs are presented in reverse chronological order, like a blog, so start at the bottom. Bear in mind that they grow somewhat in quality of makeup and presentation as they proceed.

Satan has a certain lubricious appeal and the dialog has moments of both persuasive comedy and stunningly ham-handed drama, so that the series is (IMHO) an interesting local-church production.

Here's just a taste of it:

To generate some kind of bother out of this earnest fundamentalism, graced by calculated and effective promotion, is silly.
